Exhibition catalog (11.38 x 14.96 inches, 130 pages)
Carolee Schneeman, Yoko Ono, Adrian Piper, Judy Chicago, Marina Abramovic, Hannah Wilke, Francesca Woodman, and Ana Mendieta. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, these eight women went toe to toe with the patriarchal powers that controlled the art world at the time. They broke artistic barriers and used their creative platforms to call attention to the horrors women face daily. Their common thread: they used their bodies as tools and canvases to amplify their message. These pioneers were ahead of their time, and yet, here we are 50 years later still fighting for the very same things they stood up for. This exhibition is a celebration of their inspiring feminine force and creative accomplishments, and an ode to the front-page recognition they deserved in the past. But most importantly, this exhibition is a reminder that we as a society are still in need of some serious growth.
